Spiritual leader not welcome in SA
The Dalai Lama was invited to partake in the 2010 World Cup Peace Conference in Johannesburg but was denied a visa; the event was postponed. It’s quite ironic that this happened shortly after we celebrated Human Rights Day… and here I thought human rights are universal, silly me! Better luck next time!
yes you are missing something how much is the dalai lama that buddist monk worth next to the value of trade with china, do you think if we give an option to the people of khayalisha, guguletu, soweto between $4 billion of trade and the dalai lama which will they choose, we worn our human rights now we just need to fianace them
The goverment’s official reason for refusing the visa, viz that it would distract from the world soccer cup being played in SA, does not sound very convincing to many people. Perhaps you can expand on the goverment’s view point for the benifit of our readers?
