DSTV pulls a ‘dirty’
MultiChoice is considering broadcasting pornography and the possibility of creating new sex channels on DStv’s satellite pay-TV service.
They are using e-mails for market research purposes to test the interest in various broadcasting options, such as the broadcasting of “mixed pornography” (hardcore porn between 21:00 and 05:00 and soft porn between 05:00 and 21:00), hardcore porn 24 hours per day, or soft porn 24 hours per day on DStv.
Do you think the general South African populace is equipped to deal with this kind er….. selection? Do you think it will be like pouring fuel on the fire of sexual abuse and exploitation already running rampant in our country. Or do you think that we are responsible enough to make our own decisions if given the opportunity.
Have your say!
Ok, well seeing as though I am responsible for the article, I will get the ball rolling. Please be gentle. I believe we should be given a choice to watch porn or not. It is paid tv therefore you are not forced to watch it if you don’t want to. Yes I know that there are issues with protecting your children or not encouraging a rapist to rape further, but the bottom line is that if you are a parent you need to be responsible enough to put a parental guidance control on the channel, when it comes to a rapist, now I have no idea what goes through their brains, but I doubt that no porn on DStv will ever stop him from raping.
My thinking is this: Too much of anything is not good. So if you are into porn, just get yourself a movie when the need arises. I mean, how much porn can you possibly watch? Surely you have a job, some hobbies or interests, friends etc. (which equals a nice, balanced lifestyle). It just eliminates the risk of children getting exposed to this as there will be many, many situations where parents are not responsible enough to put a parental guidance control on the channel. Prevention is better than cure and all that jazz.
Ok. I’m going to sound really cliched now, and probably a bit like an 80 year old! Am I the only one that finds the morals of society to be on the slippery slope to ruin? There are people out there who are addicted to porn – why not just hand them a gun and say go for it! Not to mention the number of marriages this will strain and possibly destroy- whether through financial strain (pay-for-view porn), or just pure unrealistic expectations. Lets face it: how is the average woman going to live up to what’s on TV. On the lighter side: this would more than likely cut back on the population explosion!
