That being said, it does not mean that we have to agree with everything going down in this country, though. Our mission is to encourage people not to go but to get actively involved; whether in a hands-on capacity or questioning/addressing present issues to keep the powers at be on their toes. I went in on the Lotto’s home page but didn’t see the breakdown -found it on the National Lottery Board site though. This kind of transparency is refreshing and it’s great if the money gets distributed this way! Thanks for the info. @Marc > We absolutely love this country. However in this case I think you are erring on the side of negativity - a surprise on such a pro-SA site! According to the breakdown above, the NLDTF has allocated just over 23% of it's revenue to support the SWC. Considering the legacy that a successful tournament (which it will be) will leave behind, it could be argued this is a small price to pay for what could be considerable investment into South Africa over the coming decade. Especially considering the depth of the recession in the developed world and the favourable position developing nations like ours now find themselves in. As you'll see on the Lotto homepage, Lotto funds are allocated such: Charities: 45% Arts, Culture and National Heritage: 28% Sport and Recreation: 22% Miscellaneous Purposes: 5% Not all funds go to charities alone. And for the reasons above, I'm not going to complain if the board decides to overspend for a once-off occasion like the SWC. I also know that the NLDTF runs very tight accounting processes with its beneficiaries, who have to meticulously account for every cent spent. It's slightly cynical to then assume that the actual fund distribution would not be conducted in a similar fashion, or could be ripe with corruption. Having said this though,I would still like to see a breakdown of all distributions, which should in fact be public information. I have seen first hand the good work that recipients have achieved with money received from the Lotto, so I question why Kerry believes the Euro/UK lottery would be any better, and urge her to rethink her decision to not support our proudly South African Lotto. They've spent all this money just to impress while poverty, education and the state of government hospitals are real issues in this country. The relatively small percentage of Lotto money which eventutally lands in the coffers of charities is supposed to "legitimise" another of South Africa's big swindles. Mind you, why not take a bash? If you don't, the money will probably be stolen by a bag snatcher or burglar in any event! If there is still some left (money), SARS is waiting patiently for your contribution! - David.
