101 mini adventures #6

Who would have thought that an hours outing to Shongweni Dam could be so much fun? On a Friday afternoon nogal! That’s the beauty of these mini adventures, they’re usually quite spontaneous…Late Friday afternoon, (tea in flasks in tow) we headed out in the fun bus for “something scenic”…

Shongweni has the most beautiful sunsets!! The water in the foreground, the sun on its way down and the hills in the background make for perfect silhouettes…kinda like this one:

And then we found the sand and that’s when we started building a up a sweat. First Tom Tom was jumping, then me and Tom, then Jem jumping over Toms head, then Tom jumping on Jem, then WooWoo trying to jump (bless) and well..there was just a lot of jumping going on. So Simple! IQFT (Inexpensive Quality Family Time) :)

101 Mini Adventures #5

As long as I can remember, the comrades day has been an inspirational one for me. Without fail, it had resulted in a jog that afternoon and promises of my participation the following year!

This year was no different but with a few extra passengers!

We decided to go for a trail run so we loaded up the fun bus with two prams and headed to Summerveld.

Summerveld is always a beautiful place especially in a late autumn afternoon.

We felt for the comrades runners as it was hot and blustery, we even felt it on our little 7.5km.

So don’t let a lack of baby sitters stop you getting stuff done! Load up the littleys and get out there, time is burning!

101 Mini Adventures #4 – Comrades, Skottels and Bacon and Egg rolls

It’s on the bucket list. Comrades. It’s there. We have a date together sometime in the future, it may be next year or the year after that or even many years from now. But we’re going to meet. And I really hope we like each other, a lot. In the meantime, I’m just flirting. That means, just watching, clapping, then eating bacon and egg rolls, oh and trying to control 2 toddlers! Shishkmabab! surely this could be considered training?

Comrades preparedness (in the flirting stage) starts here. In Woolies. You buy your breakie goods and then wait with your fellow flirtees or seconds in the queue. You kind of get that patriotic feeling, even there in woolies because you know they’ve all loaded up with the same unhealthy breakie goods you’ve got in your trolley, ready for flirtations, ululations and whatever else people do alongside the road in support of the runners.

Our boys “up high” watching the action…

Tom…look at his eyes. He’s going on a date with Comrades too, don’t you think?

Oh? You didn’t you know that rusks taste better when dipped in orange juice?

The Skottel’s annual outing….

This made my heart smile…you’ve got runners in the thousands going past, music playing, spectators everywhere and yet these two little boys find a patch of sand and are totally engrossed by it. I love the simplicity of it. The mindfulness of it, effortlessly living and enjoying the moment they’ve found themselves in……aaaah.

101 Mini Adventures #3

The Royal Show isn’t just for farmers…or cows…or sheep…or bunnies…or chickens…it’s also for dads and their sons who wish they were farmers. They look at tractors and harvesters like…like I look at YuppieChefs range of colorful kitchen aids.. You know, THAT look?!! :)
The little farmers

Farmers, uhum, real farmers get grease on their hands mom.

Back in the “fun bus” on our way home…sunkissed and sleepy xx

101 Mini Adventures #2

Wilson’s Wharf…we used to paddle here every Tuesday night years and years ago…we’d paddle across the harbour, do the Stella time trial and paddle back again. They were fun times…lung-busting times, arm-cramping times, teeth-gritting times, but still fun you know? (my warped sense of fun hah hah)..although often forgotten about, this place still holds a special place in my heart…
How could you not love and appreciate a landscape so pretty and peaceful?

A short bicycle ride and breakfast after overlooking the harbour made a special (and nostalgic) morning out…
